St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) St. Joseph’s Institute of Management has been recognized as a Research Centre by the University of Mysore from the academic year 2021-22 onwards. The aim of SJIM’s Ph.D. program at the Research Centre is provide a nurturing and challenging environment for its doctoral students. SJIM has several recognised Research Guides specialized in various areas like Organizational Behaviour, Commerce, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management.

University of Mysore
The University of Mysore is recognized as an Institution of Excellence by the Government of India and is accredited with Five Star status and an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is approved by the UGC, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and is a Member of AIU. Established in 1916, the University of Mysore celebrated 100 years of existence in 2016. As the sixth university in India, and the first ever university established in Karnataka, the University of Mysore is a globally acclaimed institution of higher education.

SJIM’s Research Centre
The SJIM Research Centre provides the right environment for a candidate to achieve their objectives of intensive research. The PhD program envisages a greater emphasis on academic research in management. A high degree of scholarship and investigative skills are required from the researcher. The Research Centre will provide the right academic support system and advice for these skills to flower and result in meaningful solutions and knowledge, keeping in mind the management needs of the future. There are high expectations from scholars who join the Research Centre to produce research work of excellent quality. The quality of research at SJIM is measured by publication in top-ranked academic journals.

Admissions to the PhD Program

Admission to Ph.D. programme and conduct of the Ph.D. program will be overseen by a Ph.D. Committee appointed by the Director. Ph.D. admissions at SJIM Research Centre are governed by the University of Mysore admission rules notified on the website of the University of Mysore.

Apart from the academic requirements prescribed by the University of Mysore, SJIM prescribes additional research output, mentioned here.

Students can take up their PhD program on a full-time or part-time basis at SJIM. However, part-time PhD students are expected to complete all the requirements of a full-time PhD student as prescribed by the University of Mysore and SJIM.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

a) Ph. D. admissions at SJIM Research Centre are governed by the University of Mysore admission rules notified on the website of the University of Mysore.
b) As per the existing rules of the University of Mysore, a candidate must have a Master’s Degree or any other Degree/Diploma, with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or an equivalent Grade. However, this condition is relaxed to 50% in case of:
▪ SC/ST (Cat-I candidates), OBC (NCL candidates), Persons with Disability (PWD) and Transgender candidates.
▪ In-service candidates with a minimum of five years of regular experience associated with the teaching profession as teachers/library professionals/physical education instructors/laboratory staff in educational institutions.
▪ A candidate who has completed their master’s degree prior to 19 September 1991.
c) The candidate must also appear for the Entrance Test conducted by the University of Mysore. A candidate securing at least 55 marks out of 100 (or 50 marks in the case of OBC/PWD/Transgender candidates or 45 marks in the case of SC/ST candidates) in the test shall be declared as eligible and can apply for the Ph.D. admission. The following categories are exempted from the Entrance Test:
▪ Candidates who have qualified JRF fellowships through UGC/CSIR-NET/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ ICAR Examinations /SLET (KSET)/ GATE Examination.
All such candidates have to only obtain a consent/acceptance letter from their proposed guide.

Selection Process

a) Every applicant seeking admission to the Ph.D. program needs to complete the online Application Form, upload the required documents and submit the entire application.

b) Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a personal interview conducted by SJIM.

c) Final selection of candidates will be based on academic records, research experience (if any), marks secured in the University entrance examination or other competitive examinations, and the interview conducted by SJIM.

Fee Structure

a) Ph.D. Candidates will have to pay the prescribed fees of SJIM and the fee of the University of Mysore. Please note that the SJIM fee does NOT include any fee component of the University of Mysore. Therefore, students are expected to pay all fees of the University of Mysore on time directly to the University.

c) The fees for SJIM is listed below:

Stipend * Rs. 10,000 per month
for the first 3 years

* This stipend will be provided only to those full-time students who have not been awarded any fellowship at any point in time for their doctoral studies.

Course Structure

a) The course duration will be a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years as per the University of Mysore regulations.

b) Initial (mandatory) course work will be conducted by SJIM and will last one term of five months (weekend classes) in the following two subjects:
- Literature Review
- Research Methodology

c) All students are also required to publish two Scopus-indexed articles during their Ph.D. program at SJIM. This is a mandatory requirement.
