Transformative Insights on Total Quality Management by Dr. K. J. Rathanraj at SJIM

Dr. K. J. Rathanraj, a distinguished academician with a PhD in Reliability Engineering from IIT Bombay, delivered an insightful guest lecture on Total Quality Management (TQM) at St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM), Bangalore. Dr. Rathanraj, known affectionately as Dr. KJR, brings over 32 years of teaching experience to his current roles as a Professor at BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), Bangalore, and as Dean of Student Affairs. Notably, he holds ten patents, six of which have been granted, underscoring his innovative contributions to the field.

The lecture, titled "TQM & Reactive Improvements," was attended by the second-year PGDM students specializing in operations. Dr. KJR began by discussing the "Fundamentals of Quality," providing a solid foundation before delving into the key concepts and techniques employed in TQM. He emphasized the various types of improvements, particularly reactive improvements, illustrating these concepts with practical examples.

A highlight of the session was the detailed case study on the application of the 7 QC steps for quality control. This practical example helped students connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, enhancing their understanding of TQM.

The lecture was facilitated by Prof. V. J. Lawrence, a faculty member in the Operations department at SJIM. The session was highly interactive, and students left with a deeper understanding and appreciation of TQM, thanks to Dr. KJR's expert insights and engaging presentation style.
