Date: 2026 Share on WhatsApp
Venue:St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM)

St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) has re-envisioned its flagship Rural Immersion Programme as Rural Immersion for Sustainability & Empowerment, reflecting a deeper commitment to experiential learning, social responsibility, and sustainable development.

In 2026, the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 600 MBA students, conducted in two phases. The first batch visited villages from 28th October to 1st November, and the second batch from 25th to 29th November. Students were immersed in the rural ecosystems of Bijapur, Hangal, and Manvi, regions where the Jesuit mission actively engages in social development initiatives.

Students stayed in village homes and social service centres, embracing community life and experiencing rural realities firsthand. The immersion was designed not as a visit, but as a lived experience — fostering empathy, cultural sensitivity, and grassroots engagement.

Key Activities Undertaken

  • Cleanliness drives in villages
  • Painting and renovating Government Schools
  • Working alongside farmers in agricultural fields
  • Participating in Constitutional awareness movements
  • Organizing cultural evenings for village communities
  • Teaching children in Government Schools
Through these activities, students moved beyond classrooms to understand the socio- economic fabric of rural India.

Students identified grassroots challenges such as poor waste management, lack of clean water, limited awareness of government schemes, youth migration, and rising child malnutrition.

The immersion strengthened empathy, leadership, adaptability, and social responsibility—reinforcing the importance of ethical and inclusive management practices.

The Rural Immersion for Sustainability & Empowerment stands as a testament to SJIM’s Jesuit ethos — forming leaders who combine academic excellence with ethical rigor and social commitment.

At SJIM, management education goes beyond business — it builds conscious leaders for a just and sustainable world.
