SJIM celebrated Mahotsav 2024 (Pongal/Makara Sankranthi) like never before. The Institute
went into festive mode with colourful flowers, delicious sugarcanes and traditional kolams.
The students from diverse background dressed in ethnic wear were high in Pongal Spirit. The
day started with students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and West
Bengal representing their states through the diverse delicacies of their respective places. They
prepared delicious Sankranthi dishes in traditional clay pots surrounded by friends like
family. This event showcased the unity in the diversity of Makar Sankranthi as a festival
celebrated all over India.
What followed was the traditional Pongal lunch accompanied by the sweet Sakkara Pongal
for the authenticity. The event then shifted to Loyola Auditorium for the fun and engaging
part of the celebration aka the cultural performances by the students. To understand the
cultural significance of Makar Sankranthi, students from Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana,
Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu enlightened the audience with the various facets of the tradition in
their respective states. Dances and songs by the student community enthralled the audience.
The fun continued through the interesting games conducted for the both the staff and the
students thus ending the day high on energy and festive spirit.
