5th SJIM-Albers International Business Plan Competition


An international business plan competition on “Developing a financially sustainable and technologically feasible and scalable business ideathat will engender responsible consumption in societies” was organized by jointly by St. Joseph’s Institute of Management, Bangalore and the Albers School of Business and Economics, Seattle University, USA on April 2nd 2022.

Starting from last November, students atSt. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM, India), St. Joseph’s College of Law (SJCL, India), St. Joseph’s College (SJC, India), St. Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC, India), Albers School of Business and Economics (Seattle University, USA),College of Nursing (Seattle University, USA), and Fu Jen Catholic University (Taiwan)have been collaborating in virtual teams. Together, they harnessed the different countries’ technical and social expertise towards solving this serious problem.

Three finalist teams were shortlisted by a GlobalPanel of judges including PelleLutken(Denmark; Policy Specialist on Governance and Peacebuilding with the UNDP or United Nations Development Program); Steve William Azeumo(Cameroon; Founder of PRESDIE, member of the African Center for Competitive Intelligence, and Country Coordinator for EoC-IIN); and Andres Oller(Argentina; Specialist in Change Management and HR Head of Siemens Mobility S.A. [Transportation] and also of Siemens S.A. [Energy]).

The finals for this competition was held on 2nd April 2022on a virtual (online) platform. The three finalist teams presented their b-plans to a two-member panel of judges from Cameroon and USA consisting ofSteve William Azeumo(Cameroon; Founder of PRESDIE, member of the African Center for Competitive Intelligence, and Country Coordinator for EoC-IIN) and Dr. Anusha Ramesh (USA; Assistant Professor of Management at Willamette University and a James Buchanan Fellow).The three finalist teams also fielded a set of challenging questions from the jury.

For the first time since the inception of this event, two teams tied for first place – Team 3 comprising of DhivyaRamanujam (Albers School of Business and Economics, USA), BhuvanaS. (SJCL, India), BarjeesaShafat(SJC, India), Rohith K C (SJIM, India), andSyed Mohammed Jaffer (SJIM, India); and Team 5 comprising of RichaPrabhuVerleker (Albers School of Business and Economics, USA), Glister Prithesh D Silva (SJIM, India), and Faiza Hussain (SJIM, India).
