St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) hosted an insightful session led by Ms. Uma Maheswari, Founder and CEO of We-Mana Nutrition, addressing around 100 students from the Business Ethics program. Ms. Uma Maheswari shared her entrepreneurial journey and her mission to combat malnutrition through We-Mana's flagship product, the Ahrogya nutrition bar.
Her talk emphasized the role of social entrepreneurship in addressing critical issues like malnutrition, which affects nearly 49% of Indian children, posing a severe threat to the country’s future workforce. Ms. Uma Maheswari stressed the importance of sustainable, community-driven solutions and the role of ethical business practices in fostering social progress. She also underscored the long-term economic costs of malnutrition, citing that India could lose up to $12 billion annually due to health care costs and productivity losses.
The session, organized by Prof. Joy Cheruvathoor, left students deeply inspired, showcasing how business can be leveraged for social impact. Ms. Maheswari’s leadership and vision for a healthier, more equitable society left an enduring mark on the SJIM community.
