Being social beings, we all hope that the society we live in gets rid of its flaws. Transforming this hope into constructive actions however, is a whole new ballgame. St Joseph's Institute of Management - SJIM is an institution that teaches its students not only to be efficient managers, but also pillars of strength for the society. Most of us want to bring about positive change but are too afraid or too lazy to act. To come to terms with the harsh realities of the society that we live in, we need to dive head-on and engage with the problem. Walkathon brings to the fore, the issue of DIABETES and helps everyone understand the importance of societal success in life. On Nov 4th 2017, the event started with energetic dance by the Zumba Team and followed by the 5 Km walk.
At the conclusion of the walkathon, Rector Fr Antony Joseph appreciated the initiatives of the students and also spoke about the importance of controlling the diabetes which is a serious health problem seen in the urban cities. The Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Joseph Pasangha.COO, Narayana health City, A unit of Narayana Hrudayalaya hospitals ltd. Dr. Pasangha spoke about the importance of being mobile. He quoted Martin Luther King – If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, keep moving. Dr. Subramanian Kannan, Head of the Department and consultant endocrinologist, Narayana Health, spoke about why we Indians are more prone to diabetes as compared to the people in Western countries.
The event concluded with and flash mob and vote of thanks by the students of St. Joseph’s Institute of management.
